Country “Pattern” dances are done in a circle around the dance floor. These are very popular dances. You will see them danced all over the Pacific Northwest in various clubs and venues. Some of the country round dances we teach at the dance barn include Cowboy or Traveling Cha-cha, Polka, Ten-Step (also known as Ten Step Polka), and Sweetheart Schottische
History
A group of German settlers from El Paso, Texas reportedly invented the Schottische as well as various other line dances. These dances were spring boards for other western dances such as the Cotton-Eyed Joe.
